Okanagan September Festivals & Fun Events
Fall Celebrations In The Okanagan Valley BC
There are a number of annual September festivals and events that take place throughout the Okanagan BC region. Many communities in the Okanagan Valley hold harvest festivals, fall fairs and other events that speak to the regions rich history in agriculture and passion for celebration.
On our September calendar of events and festivals page you'll find information about some of the main fall festivals and events that are held each year. Whether you are coming to the Okanagan for business, a convention, sporting event, a special event, or a well deserved fall vacation you can still enjoy much of what the Okanagan Valley has to offer.
During early fall, the weather is still warm and very beautiful. The the busy summer traffic has settled and most visitors have gone back home. But this time of year still offers much to see and do in the way of annual events and we begin to look forward to fall grape harvest.
September is also a great time to go camping in the Okanagan BC. The nights are cooler, but the days are warm and the air is crisp as fall foliage brings vibrant color to our beautiful landscapes.
Farmer's markets are also still open and are less crowded, and you can enjoy all the goodness of local fall fruits and vegetables without the summer crowds. September is time for pears and the best fall apple varieties.
If you're out and about, it's a good idea to have layers handy, as the weather can change quite quickly from a nice warm sunny afternoon, to colder, cloudy and rain.
There's never a lack of musical festivals and events in the Okanagan Valley. And the Hot Jazz Festival in Penticton is one of the most popular fall events we have here.
The Penticton Jazz Festival has been taking place for more than 16 years. Top Jazz bands come from all over North America to entertain with dixieland jazz, blues, gospel and swing. The great event takes place on the weekend following the September long weekend holiday in the city of Penticton. If you're planning on being here, you should get your tickets in advance and also look at booking accommodations early. Check the Pentastic website www.pentasticjazz.com for the line up of entertainers for the upcoming September festivals.

The Hopscotch Festival, which originally began in Vancouver BC, is Canada's largest combined Whisky and Beer festival. This annual event has been taking place for more than 15 years, and five years in the city of Kelowna.
There are hundreds of products from many brewers and distillers to taste from like Scotch Whisky, Canadian whisky, Ale's, Rum, Vodka, Spiced Ale, Lager, Tequila, Bourbon and Gin, and you also get to experience some great food and top class entertainment!
In Kelowna, the Hopscotch Festival takes place in September, for two days. Tickets are cheaper if you buy in advance, and the festival is generally sold out.
The fall harvest festival, the Annual Pepper Festival, takes place in Keremeos BC, in heart of the Similkameen Valley.
There are more than 200 kinds of peppers are grown organically in the Keremeos area which is also noted as the Organic Farming Capital of Canada.
This September festival's a great event for families and includes activities and games for kids, and lots of local vendors and concessions during the day. And there's also a hot pepper eating contest, a best hot sauce competition and a chili cook-off, live music and entertainment and a beverage garden.
Armstrong's Interior Provincial Exhibition & Stampede takes place over five days at either the end of August or in the beginning of September in Armstrong.
This is the biggest of all September festivals and the largest rodeo/exhibition in the Okanagan Valley and definitely one that locals look forward to each year. Events include a parade, daily rodeo, midway rides, agricultural fair, grandstand show, live music, a circus and much more.
Armstrong is just a short drive from the city of Vernon BC. It's a busy weekend in the Okanagan and you'll want to plan your accommodations well in advance. It's usually a beautiful weekend weather wise, but you'll want to bring along a sweater or light jacket for evenings.
The first annual Sicamous & Shuswap Lake Wild Mushroom & Food Festival was held in beautiful Sicamous, B.C. in 2005. Since then, each year visitors enjoy identifying and picking wild mushrooms, watching presentations, and attending workshops.
The event also has beer gardens, food (of course), and interesting educationsl displays. The mushroom festival offers all day walking tours with guides to help you learn to to identify and pick wild mushrooms, and then experience wild mushroom cuisine in the Shuswap area. As well, there are short walking tours for those who don't want to be out all day and a variety of activities and events focusing on local wild mushrooms. It's a great way to get out and experience the amazing forest and Okanagan Shuswap BC region. www.fungifestival.com
Located in south central British Columbia's Boundary Country, amongst the sun drenched mountains of the beautiful Kettle River Valley, The Rock Creek and Boundary Fall Fair is one of the last "true" country fairs. It is commonly referred to as "The biggest little country fair around". Bring the whole family to our exhibition for a fun filled two day experience.
The Rock Creek and Boundary Fair first took place in 1946 and has been an annual exhibition event since. The fair showcases local agricultural products and includes many other attractions including animal show and competition, local homemade crafts and artisans, canning and baking, fruit and vegetables, needlework by local artists, music and much more.
The fair takes place at the Rock Creek Fair Grounds off of the Crowsnest Highway (Hwy 3). You can get there from Osoyoos on Hwy 3, or if you're traveling from Kelowna, you can make a day trip out of it and take the scenic route along the Kelowna-Rock Creek Highway (Hwy 33).
Okanagan festivals and annual events take place throughout the year. These are just some of the great September festivals that happen. We'll be adding more as we continue to grow our site. You can check our monthly event calendar below to see what's happening during other months. You'll also find more information about festivals and events that take place in Osoyoos and Penticton.
