Beaches In The City Of PentictonThe Okanagan BC Best Beach TownsOne of the nicest things about the city of Penticton is definitely that it has some of the best beaches in the Okanagan. The city sits between two of the Okanagan Valley's most popular lakes - Okanagan Lake and Skaha Lake, and our beaches are a wonderful place to relax and play on. They are easily accessible, well looked after and provide floating docks and slides for kids as well as other conveniences to make for a nice relaxing vacation.
Okanagan Beach Okanagan Beach at the north end of the city, runs along Lakeshore Drive from the SS Sicamous to the Penticton Lakeside Resort on the east side. Okanagan beach is great if you want to be close to downtown, and if you want accommodations that are close by.
Along Lakeshore Drive, directly behind Okanagan beach is lined with family friendly motels where you can simply cross the street and spend the day in the water. Okanagan beach is within walking distance to the river channel where many locals and tourists flock during the summer. It's also where you'll find lots of things going on during many summer festivals and events and some fun local attractions in the city.
Skaha Beach At the south end of the city of Penticton is Skaha Beach Penticton. Skaha Beach is backed by a large beautiful park, tennis courts, beach volleyball, an outdoor road hockey area, a fun playground and family splash park. It's ideal for families with children. And there are a number of family friendly motels near Skaha Beach that you may be interested in. One of the attractions here is the Skaha Solar Timepiece, which measures time by the position of the sun. Essentially a sundial, it was built in 1984 and uses analemma to measure apparent solar time. You can play on it, climb up the posts, cast a shadow, and it will tell you the current Pacific Standard Time. Skaha Beach is also where the Sandcastle building contest takes place during the annual Peach Festival. Sudbury Beach Penticton BC
Sudbury Beach in the city of Penticton is a popular spot for kite surfers and wind surfers. There is a small parking lot for access, public washrooms, a beach volleyball net, and a convenience counter. Down here you can also rent kayaks and paddleboats. There is a campground across from this beach as well, which is popular during the summer time. Airport Beach Penticton Airport Beach, on the other side of the river channel next to Sudbury Beach, is often less crowded than the other beaches, but is a great beach, especially if you are out boating and wish to beach your boat for a while. Access to Airport Beach is across the highway so you will need to carry your gear down with you, as well as cross a busy section of highway coming into the city. If you're looking for a beach where you can nap in the sun throughout day, this isn't the one ;-) as the airport is directly behind it. And last but not least...a pet friendly beach in the city of Penticton Got pets? There is also a great dog beach near the Okanagan Lake Park and Marina. It's a small fenced off area where you can take your canine out for a cool off! There are usually a lot of dogs there, and there is a small area next to the dog beach for people. Unfortunately, dogs must be on a leash when off the beaches here. With beaches on both ends of the city of Penticton, great weather, and long summer days, there's lots of beach family fun to be had in the beautiful warm waters.... We hope to see you soon!
