The Okanagan BC holds many music festivals during the summer that entertains the valley and brings it alive with all kinds of of music. The Okanagan Valley has also produced its share of both big and local musical artists over the years, such as Canadian's The Grapes of Wrath, Chantal Kreviazuk and Andrew Allen.
There are a number of local organizations that are dedicated to the promotion of music and arts both locally and globally, and to the growth of our local talent. Whatever your taste is, from classical to classic rock and roll, to swing, to blues, jazz, tribute bands, and impersonators, the Okanagan has something for you.
Performing arts centres in the Okanagan share a common mission to encourage cultural, artistic and creative development throughout the region. There are creative arts workshops; drumming and jam sessions, Indigenous events and performances that are attended not only by our local talent but also by musicians from all over the world.
We also have many fine theatres in the Okanagan Valley specially dedicated to bringing fine music and creative arts performances to the area. Places like the Vernon Performing Arts Theatre, Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, Sunshine Theatre Company, South Okanagan Performing Arts Centre and Ballet Kelowna, just to name a few.
And, of course, with two major event centers in Penticton and Kelowna, we see major music stars come to entertain the Okanagan throughout the year.
We also suggest that you keep a watch at our local clubs, cafes, theatres, festivals, fairs and exhibitions for music events throughout the year. There are local restaurants like the the Dream Cafe in Penticton, Checkers and Longhorn in Vernon, and the Minstrel Cafe & Bar in Kelowna that welcome well known artists to their stage. Also, wineries such as Mission Hill Winery, Tinhorn Creek and Cedar Creek Winery, have concert series events in the summer.

Music Festivals In The Okanagan
Kiwanis Speech Arts and Music Festival
Originally founded as The Okanagan Valley Music Festival in 1926, the Kiwanis Music & Speech Arts Festival takes place throughout the Okanagan at different venues. Young amateur performing artists compete in a variety of competitions including piano, vocal, woodwinds and brass, dance and also speech arts. The event takes place in early March and runs through to the beginning of April. The Penticton Kiwanis Music, Dance, Speech and Arts Festival generally runs before the Kelowna Kiwanis Music Festival. Be sure to check out both websites for dates times and locations of performances...Penticton, Kelowna. The Shuswap also holds a music festival in April.
Also known as the Penticton Elvis Festival, the event brings Elvis impersonators from all over the world to celebrate Elvis Presley. The competition crowns a winner each year.
The 3 day Penticton Elvis Festival is a long running annual music festival event that takes place in the city of Penticton, near the shores of Okanagan Lake.
This festival is a favorite among locals, and many people travel to the Okanagan for it as well.
It's a great event for families, and folks of all ages. There's food venues, local arts and craft vendors and much more. The Elvis Festival also takes place the same weekend as the Peach City Beach Cruise, and is always held in June to kick off summer.
Annual B.C. Interior Jazz Festival
The Interior BC Jazz Festival has been running for more than 35 years. This music festival takes place in April each year. The festival is open to the public, with performances running daily at both the Kelowna Community Theatre and the Rotary Centre for the Arts. You can enjoy entertainment by Jazz Bands, Jazz and Combination Choirs, Jazz Combos and a Jazz Concert Series. Salmon Arm Roots & Blues Festival
The Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival takes place every summer, the third weekend in August. It is sponsored by the Salmon Arm Folk Music Society, the festival is extremely popular among crowds of all ages. It takes place at the Salmon Arm BC Fair Grounds, just off of the Trans Canada Highway in the center of Salmon Arm.
This amazing Okanagan event has run for more than 20 years, and features 5 stages during the day, and two during the evening. There's a global food village, artisan market, and fun activities for families and kids. This is definitely one of the most musically spirited and biggest festivals in the Okanagan. Summerland Bluegrass Festival
The Annual Summerland Bluegrass Festival takes place at the Summerland BC Rodeo Grounds. This Okanagan music festival has been taking place for more than 17 years. You're invited to bring along your acoustic instrument and join in the music. Or, just come out and listen! The festival provided lots of wonderful country and bluegrass music.
Founded by a local group of Summerland Okanagan residents, the event became a success in it's first year as just a local weekend get-together on a farm. A dedicated Lawrence Trudeau (from Summerland BC), passionate about Bluegrass music, the festival continued on every year and still takes place today, in June. It's a popluar music festival. Penticton Square Dance Festival
More of a dance than a music festival, this event takes place every August at the same time as the Penticton Peach Festival. The Square Dance Festival in Penticton features four full days of dancing, and hosts over 800 square dancers who party it up to some good old square dance music. Pentastic Hot Jazz Festival
Jazz music lovers attend the popular, 15 years in the running, Pentastic Hot Jazz Festival on the weekend following Labour Day, every September. Penticton BC hosts three days of World Class Jazz to entertain music lovers of all ages at this much loved Okanagan music festival. pentasticjazz.com
Rarearth Jazz and Blues Fest
Rarearth Jazz and Blues Fest is a family music festival with a grassroots mandate.
Together with a local company, Back To Earth, this Okanagan music festival celebrates Jazz and Blues music and the Community Harvest Fest on the beautiful lush grass of Lavington Park, southeast of Vernon BC. Along with great entertainment of many international award winning musical performers together with a variety of BC talent, Rarearth supports the musical children in the local Okanagan community and surrounding areas by providing 'Stage Right'. This features young performers the Our Kids Have Talent.
The festival takes place at the Kin Race Track in Vernon BC. There's lots of great food, artisans, incredible music, a wide variety of other activities.
FUNTASTIC Festival - Vernon
The Vernon & District Funtastic Sports Society's main mission is to preserve and promote sports and recreation and its values in Okanagan communities. The Vernon Funtastic Canada's Largest Slo-Pitch Tournament and Music Festival is a long standing festival of more than 25 years in the city of Vernon BC. This event takes place every summer during the July long weekend holiday. It's four days of playing ball and enjoying music in the great outdoors. The Funtastic festival grounds are located 2 minutes south of Vernon at the Department of National Defense grounds on Okanagan Hwy 97 - You can't miss it!
Okanagan Ukrainian Festival
The Sadok Ukrainian Dance Ensemble Society has hosted the annual Okanagan Ukrainian Festival at the Vernon Performing Arts Theatre, 3800 - 33rd Street, Vernon, B.C., every May, for more than 13 years. The word 'Sadok' translates to 'Orchard'. For this Okanagan music festival, you can expect to enjoy the rich colorful dance performances of traditional Ukrainian Canadian music and heritage. Dancers range in age from 3 to adult.
Ongoing Summer Music Performances
During the summer music and creative arts are supported throughout the Okanagan with programs such as 'Parks Alive' in Kelowna, 'Wednesday On the Wharf (WOW!) in Salmon Arm, the Sunshine Cabaret free concert series at Gyro Park in Penticton, and events at the Shatford Centre in Penticton.
Okanagan Rhythm Fest
Okanagan Rhythm Fest is a celebration of percussion and musical rhythm. This music festival consists of a free Friday evening performance at Gryo Park in Penticton BC, as part of Penticton Sunshine Cabaret. The Okanagan Rhythm Festival celebrates drumming, percussion, and rhythmic music and dance, with two days of performances, workshops, drum and dance parties, and drum circles.
Civic Sounds in Vernon
The Civic Plaza in Downtown Vernon is alive from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm every Thursday night in July & August. Featuring local musicians, this free concert is the perfect end to your Thursday. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and take in the sounds of the evening while the sun goes down.
Penticton Sunshine Cabaret
Head down to Gyro Park, in downtown Penticton and enjoy a variety of music, including concert bands, big band and dixieland music, as well as musicals, classical, swing and jazz. The Sunshine Cabaret takes place during the summer, every Friday and Saturday night from 7-9pm.
Parks Alive! Kelowna
Kelowna's Parks Alive! program entertains the community with more than 50 events each year. Most take place during the summer months, outdoors at many of the Kelowna parks and public places. You can enjoy family friendly activities and events, live concerts and other arts focused activities all through the months of July and August. People of all ages enjoy a wide variety of music and performances from local talented artist to world-class performers.
Wednesdays On The Wharf! (WOW!) Salmon Arm
The Salmon Arm Arts Centre presents the summer music concert series "WOW!" every Wednesday evening from the middle of June right through to the end of August. The performances take place at the Salmon Arm Marine Park, in the gazebo area, 750 Marine Park Drive N.E. in the city of Salmon Arm. You can enjoy a wide variety of music including rock, jazz and folk. Concerts generally begin at 6:45pm, and go on until 8:30pm. Bring a lawn chair or blanket with you.
