Sun Oka Beach Provincial Park
An Okanagan Best Beach
Sun Oka beach, in Sun-Oka Provincial Park, is on Okanagan Lake, near Summerland BC. It is one of the Okanagan best beaches. Well, we think so anyway!
Sunoka provincial park has pretty much everything you need for enjoying a great day on the beach in the Okanagan Valley.
The water is perfect for swimming and the park is perfect for picnics, with lots of tables, beach fire pits and plenty of shade.
The light sand is soft and fine, and the lake bottom is also free of most rock.
There's a playground for the kids, volleyball net, and there is also plenty of grass area for a game of bocce ball or a game of frisbee. The beach also has change rooms, showers, outdoor water taps for rinsing off sand, and water fountains.
Sunoka is also somewhat pet friendly, with a 'doggy beach' area for pets. Along the dog beach, where it's a bit more rocky, the kids love to collect rocks, and always find some of the best skippers!
Pet's are not allowed right on the main beach, though, and if you're walking with your dog you're required to stay off the sand, and your dog must be on a leash.
Fire pits are also right on the beach, which are hard to find on the beaches these days.
It's the perfect park to stay well into the evenings for weiner roasts and smors! (check on campfire bans before using)
Many boaters cruise over here for the day to enjoy water skiing, tubing and other watersport activities - like jet skiing.
It's a great spot for getting out on seadoo's for fun rides around the lake!
Looking south from the beach, you can see the city of Penticton, and across Okanagan Lake to the east are the vineyards and orchards that line the clay cliffs near the village of Naramata.
There is an area for boats to pull up to the shoreline, and the swimming areas are well marked. There are no lifeguards.
It's just a few kilometers from the city of Penticton, and just south of Summerland BC, in the Trout Creek area.
So if you do forget something, like we did the last time we were there (someone forgot the hotdogs!), it's just a few minutes to the nearest convenience store.
You can also get fresh Okanagan fruit at the Blossom Fruit Stand in Trout Creek to take to the beach with you!
Sun-Oka Provincial Park is open as a day park only. Since it's a British Columbia Provincial Park, that means there's also a parking fee.
It's only about $3 for the day, but the fine for no sticker in a vehicle is much more steep! There generally is plenty of room for parking in the lot. Many spots are well shaded to keep our vehicle nice and cool.
We've also spent some beautiful warm spring and fall days at SunOka beach.
