Peach Cobbler & Peach Crisp

Here are two of our favorite peach dessert recipes, made with fresh Okanagan peaches every fall.

These peach recipes have been in our family for years and always bring heart warming goodness to the table.

Served with ice cream.... they are simply delicious!

In the Okanagan Valley, peaches are harvested beginning in early July and until the end of August.

During that time, fresh peach desserts are the best part of our summer meals, and something we look forward to at harvest time.

Old Fashioned Easy Peach Cobbler Recipe

This easy fruit cobbler is one of our favorite traditional Canadian dessert recipes.

Ingredients:

6 1/2 cups sliced, peeled and pitted peaches

1/4 cup sugar

1 tbsp lemon juice

1 tbsp cornstarch

In large bowl, gently mix peaches with lemon juice, sugar and cornstarch. Scrape into 9x9 square glass baking dish.
For Old Fashioned Topping

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 tsp baking soda

1/8 tsp salt

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 cup butter (cold)

3/4 cup milk

Combine flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Using pastry blender cut in butter until nice and crumbly.

Add milk, stirring with fork to form a soft, sticky dough. With a spoon, drop dough in 6 - 8 mounds over hot fruit mixture.

Bake in 400°F (200°C) oven for about 35 minutes or until bubbly and topping is light golden and no longer doughy underneath when lifted with spoon.

Fresh peaches are most delicious in fruit dessert recipes, and we really like to go all out during late summer season when we can get them ripe off the tree.
But once peach harvest is over, canned peaches are also great for winter time desserts and other peach recipes.

Fresh Peach Crisp Recipe

Peach crisp, like any fruit crisp, is always a welcomed dessert, full of goodness and delicious served warm with ice cream. With the first signs of fall season, it's our favorite of all peach dessert recipes.

4 cups fresh peeled, sliced, pitted peaches

3 Tbsp granulated sugar

3/4 cup packed brown sugar

1 tbsp lemon juice

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp nutmeg

1 cup flour

1 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup butter or margerine, softened

Mix together peaches, lemon juice, granulated sugar. Place in 9x9 inch glass baking dish. Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour and rolled oats. Mix in softened butter. Spread over peaches.

Bake in 375° oven for about 30 minutes. Serve warm.
