Okanagan Outdoor Water Parks
Let Youngsters Burn Some Energy
At A Splash Water Park
Need some splish splash summer fun for kids? Outdoor water parks, or sprayparks or splash pads, are found near many
beaches in the Okanagan.
So shen the little ones
get restless at the beach and need to run around, a water splash park is a great place to let them do just that.
Many city parks and beaches in the Okanagan have a nearby splash water park with shady trees, picnic tables, grassy areas and nearby or adjacent playgrounds
for children to burn off their energy.
They are also FREE!
These spray parks are concrete playgrounds, with a blacktop type non slip surface that have fountains, colorful structures and equipment that shoot and spray water.
Now what kid doesn't like that for summer fun?
Okanagan Splash Water Parks
There are several outdoor water parks around the Okanagan.
Penticton
The city of Penticton has splash parks at both of it's main beaches. Lakawana Park across the street from Okanagan Beach has a splash pad next to the playground.
Though relatively small, with a small grassy area, it's conveniently surrounded by fence and has a small playground next to it.
If you want to spread out, relax, and even bring along a picnic lunch, head to the south end of Penticton, to the splash park at Skaha Beach.
Huge shady trees, loads of grassy area, picnic tables, washrooms and concession stand are all right there. There's convenient parking, and also a playground directly
adjacent to the splash park.
Kelowna
The city of Kelowna has an outdoor splash park at it's waterfront City Park - Variety Club Children's Waterpark - with a water slide, a splash pad,
and a wading pool. It is near Hot Sands Beach in Kelowna's downtown area. City Park is located next to the Okanagan Lake floating bridge. The park itself is a
popular spot for families and offers
other activities including beach volleyball, a skate park, playground and more.
Salmon Arm
Fletcher Park in the city of Salmon Arm has an outdoor water park as well. Though not close to the beach,
it is a large landscaped park with lots of room to run and play. To get there from the Trans Canada Highway in Salmon Arm, turn south on Ross Street to 2nd Ave. NE.
Summerland BC
Summerland BC also has a splash park at Peach Orchard Beach in lower Summerland. We like this park because it is adjacent to the beach,
parking is easy and convenient, and there's a huge grassy area, swimming area and washrooms right there as well.
To get there follow Okanagan Highway 97 to Summerland.
Turn east onto Peach Orchard Road and follow all the way down to Lakeshore Drive, then drive south. You won't miss it.
Outdoor splash water parks in the Okanagan are not staffed by attendants, just as the beaches are not attended by lifeguards.
What To Take With You To Outdoor Water Parks
All the usual beach gear:
- towels
- hats
- sunscreen (click here for sunburn index information)
- plenty of water to drink
- snacks - or pack a picnic lunch
- beach blanket or chairs are good to bring along if you plan to spend an afternoon at a splash park.
Kids need constant supervision around water. In addition, young children should wear water shoes to protect their little feet from stubbing toes or stepping on broken glass, twigs or other sharp objects
that can be found in parks.
Our parks are well maintained by city departments, however, there's always a potential for injury.
A pair of water shoes is recommended for the beaches as well. You can pick them up at a local Wal-mart for about $5.00.
