Okanagan Wine
Best Wine Tasting Tours, Wineries & Favorite Wines
When it comes to Okanagan wine, wineries and the best wine tasting tours, there are so many choices that we
can't possibly visit them all ourselves!
We've got a lot on our plates here in the Okanagan valley... we have to squeeze in some time for everything
else that goes on here, like lounging on the beaches, getting to all the
fun festivals, playing some golf (well, for some..)
and making sure the
kids are having fun too ... wink :-)
But over the years we have had a few opportunities to visit some very unique wineries and taste some very
delicious wines. And being the wine experts that we are not, we've enjoyed it all and we've
learned a lot along the way :-)
Some of the Okanagan wines and tours we have enjoyed include visits to:
Elephant Island Winery on the Naramata Bench makes wonderful fruit wines
including Black Current (to die for!), Apricot, Crab Apple and a Pear fruit wine.
You can bring your kids to this
winery and though they can't hang out in the tasting room, there is a play area outside on the patio where they
can play while you sit nearby and sip.
The folks are friendly, you can stay for lunch, the patio is shaded, and you may want to
go home with a bottle of Framboise (seriously - is it obvious there's a sweet tooth here!).
See Ya Later Ranch is located just on the outskirts of Okanagan Falls. There's a long
windy climb up to the winery itself, but once you're there this is the view of Skaha lake from the patio.
The neat thing about See Ya Later is it's history of a love for dogs. Many of their wines are named
after special pets that the owners have had. And every fall they have a special
event called 'Dog Days of Summer'. Visitor's can bring their dogs along to hang out in an area outside.
Silver Sage Winery near Oliver BC is one of the first wineries we visited. My personal preference is white wine over red, so this
was a favorite stop for me.
They have a unique white wine - Sage Grand Reserve - a Gewurztraminer fermented with wild sage plants that I still
recall the flavor.
We went home with a bottle of 'The Flame', which is an apertif wine, a late harvest Gewurztraminer, with peach/apricot fruit and a pepper.
Though I gave it away as a gift, we did get to share it with the recipients.
