Winter temperatures are generally mild in the valley, and snow doesn't stay on the ground for long in the South Okanagan. The Shuswap region is well known for it's excellent winter snowmobiling opportunities, and alpine skiing is one of the most popular winter activities. There are a number of excellent ski resorts in the Okanagan!

The Kettle Valley Railway 600 km-long trail of abandoned railway corridors, marked by tunnels and trestles built in the early 1900's. The KVR is one of the most fascinating attractions in the Okanagan, and a popular route for biking and hiking. There are 18 trestles in all, hundreds of feet above ground, including the infamous "McCulloch's Wonder".
A view of Okanagan Lake in Penticton BC, during a cold winter snap! These sculptures rest on rocks along the shoreline near the Japanese Garden in the city of Penticton. This unusually cold weather caused the lake to begin to freeze over, which it has not done for many years. In fact, in the mid 1900's when the lake did freeze over, ice sailing across the lake was a popular winter sport!
