Munson Mountain Penticton British Columbia
The Perfect Place To Take Penticton Pictures
One of the best views of the city of Penticton, Okanagan Lake and the Valley is from Munson Mountain.
When you are driving into the city on Highway 97 you'll see the "Penticton" letters in white on the east side of Okanagan Lake set in the side of the mountain.
The views are unobstructed in all directions. These photos don't really do justice to the beauty of the view.
Take a picnic lunch with you and explore the park trails that weave and wind to various spots where you can simply enjoy looking around.
It's also a great place to watch the Canada Day fireworks from.
Munson Mountain itself is an extinct volcano which is now used as a park with walking paths and a connection to the Trans-Canada trail.
The view of Okanagan Lake from this mountain was featured on the back of the Canadian $100 bill from 1954 to 1974. It is a great place for taking pictures of the valley and the views are amazing. This is a great spot for watching the Canada Day fireworks.
That same picture is hand painted on the wall of a downtown Penticton office building.
Looking south (above) from the top of the lookout, you'll enjoy this view. We always hike up on a cool clear fall day to enjoy the fresh air and beauty.
The main walkway up to the first viewpoint is an easy walk for families and kids. You may even see a resident deer or two. There are benches for seating and a small gazebo where you can sit under shade for a while and enjoy a lunch.
And looking north (below) you'll see Sun Oka Beach near Summerland.
There are two easy ways to get Munson Mountain Penticton....
You can drive east on Vancouver Avenue (from the Penticton Marina) and simply follow the signs along the road.
Alternatively, you can drive east on Eckhardt Avenue as you come into Penticton from Highway 97 at the intersection where the Penticton Wine Country Visitor's Center intersects with Railway Street/Highway 97. You'll drive all the way to the east side of the city and continue up Haven Hill Road and then turn right onto Johnson Road. Follow Johnson Road to Upper Bench Road (turning left) and follow to Munson Avenue. (you will see the signs). There is a small parking lot and you will need to walk up to the viewpoint. Once at the top, if you have small children with you, be sure to keep them away from the edges.
Enjoy the view!
