Okanagan Outdoor Mini Golf
It's fun to take a break from the beaches and play some of the mini golf courses, which is popular summer entertaiment for us locals too.
It's a relatively inexpensive way to spend an afternoon or evening when you don't feel like touring around but you want to get out of your hotel or away from your campground.
A Little Mini Putt Golf Trivia
The game of golf itself originated in the 1700's in Scotland.
And minigolf evolved from the early 1900's as a short game of regulation golf, to now both indoor and outdoor courses with a variety of fun and challenging features for the whole family to enjoy.
It's also known as putt-putt golf, goofy golf, midget golf, goony golf, garden golf and mini putt golf.
Okanagan Mini Golf Courses
For about $6 to $10 per person, miniature golf courses in the Okanagan offer a few hours of inexpensive, fun entertainment, and if you're anything like us finding ways to have cheap fun is right up our alley.
Beware, though, that many mini putt golf courses are part of larger adventure or amusement parks, so you'll be challenged with the temptation of spending more money on go karts, rock climing walls, bungee jumping, bumper boats, ice cream and other fun things to do while you're there ;-)
There are a few fun courses around the Okanagan you can try out.
Loco Landing in the city of Penticton is located next to Okanagan Beach.
Next door is the local skateboard park, the Penticton Rose Garden, and also within a short walking distance is the launch pad for the Penticton river channel.
Loco Landing Adventure Park also has bungee bouncing, go karts, bumper boats and a few other fun amusement park style amenities.
You will find Loco Landing at:
19 Greens Putt & Play in Kelowna BC, is on the west side of the city and overlooks Lake Okanagan. It's an outdoor mini putt course with a natural grass putting green and an astro minigolf course.
This course is beautiful as it overlooks the lake. They also offer night golfing on a beautifully lit course during the summer, so it's a great place to spend a late evening of fun.
Where to find them:
In the Shuswap Frontier Mini Golf in Sicamous BC, has a lighted 18-hole mini putt golf course. You can't miss it along the Trans Canada Highway and Gill Road.
In the city of Salmon Arm, Salmon Arm Go Karts & Mini Golf has their 'Wonders of the World' 18 hole course. Be sure to wear a hat and sunscreen! Kids 6 & under golf for $4.50, 7 - 16 as well as senior are $6.50 and adults are $7.50. (Why do us adults always have to pay more?)
The Scotch Creek Family Fun Center has 2 - 18 hole courses; Pirates Cove and The Road to Camelot The cost is about the same as other courses, plus you can check out their
Scotch Creek is about 45 minutes from Salmon Arm. If you exit the Trans Canada Hwy. at the Squilax exit (the large concrete overpass) between Chase and Sorrento, just follow the Squlax-Anglemont Road and you'll land up there. The center is right next to Shuswap Lake Provincial Park. Pack a picnic lunch or dinner and make it a day trip.
These are all great places to check out!
If you plan on spending any length of time on the mini golf courses under the hot Okanagan sun, remember to lather up with sunscreen, (click here for sunburn index and UV ratings) and have plenty of water to drink (take water bottles with you - it's expensive to buy at concession stands).
