Driving directions Canada... drive to BC, the Okanagan!!

Are you planning to drive to BC from within in Canada? We've created a few simple driving maps, using Google maps, along various common travel routes that we have travelled outselves over the years. You can use these road maps and directions as a route planner for your trip. :-)

Google maps is an easy tool to use! You can change your travel route, calculate driving distances and times and adjust your route to suit your plans and schedule. These driving maps give you a general idea of driving time, distance and the common routes. We hope you find these helpful! :-)

Driving from Vancouver BC

There are two beautiful routes to follow if you're driving to the Okanagan from Vancouver British Columbia. We've driven both ways, and our favorite is the Hope - Princeton highway (Okanagan Hwy 3) to Penticton. There are lots of places to stop for a rest, and the drive through Manning Park is beautiful.

The distance through the Coquihalla is a bit shorter, only by about an hour, but the drive through Hwy 3 to Hope and Princeton is incredibly scenic, for those who are not in any hurry.

Via Hwy 1 East to Hope - Then follow either Hwy 5 or Hwy 3 to Kelowna.

Via Hwy 5, the Coquihalla Highway connects to Highway 5A/Highway 97C - the Coquihalla Connector - then on to Highway 97 North to Kelowna. The distance is about 395 km (237 miles) or about 5 hours. In the winter, these high mountain roads can be less than fun to drive.

Via Hwy 3, the Hope Princeton Highway connects to Highway 97 North to Penticton and then on to Kelowna. The distance is approximately 460km or just under 300 miles. Driving time is between 6-6 1/2 depending on traffic and stopping for lunch or a rest.

Driving Directions Canada - Northern BC To The Okanagan

The distance from Prince George BC to Kelowna is about 714 km, or an 8-10 hour drive in ideal road conditions.

Via Hwy 97 South & the Coquihalla Connector:

Drive South on Hwy 97 (Cariboo Highway) to Cache Creek, then follow the Trans Canada Hwy 1 to Kamloops where it intersects with Hwy 5 (Coquihalla Hwy) south to Merritt. This connects to Highway 5A/97C - the Coquihalla Connector to Kelowna.

Via Hwy 97: Alternately, you can stay on Highway 97 South through Kamloops, to Monte Lake, Falkland and Vernon BC, then on to Kelowna. The distance is about 700 km.

Driving From Calgary Alberta To The Okanagan

There are two ways you can drive to BC and get to the Okanagan from Calgary, depending on your preference. Most people take the northern route which we have mapped here. This is about an 8 hour drive.

Via Hwy 1

The Trans Canada Highway connects to Highway 97A South and Highway 97 South to Kelowna (602 km or 361 miles)

Once you get through the Roger's Pass and Revelstoke, BC, you should be prepared for the rest of the trip to take a bit longer.

The roads can become congested in the summer time, mostly due to the 2 lane highway through the Roger's Pass. If you're driving this route in the winter, be prepared for extreme road conditions. Proper winter tires are a must.

Driving From Lethbridge Alberta To The Okanagan - The Southern Route

We've taken the route through the Crowsnest Pass in British Columbia. It's a beautiful drive, the scenery much different than that of the northern route through Banff and the Roger's pass in the Rocky Mountains.

Via Hwy 3:

Travel west through the Crowsnest Pass to Osoyoos BC, then follow Hwy 97 north to Kelowna. The distance of this trip is about 835 km, or 518 miles.

Technically it's just under a ten hour drive, but you should plan for a bit longer for windy highways, road construction, and weather.

There are many beautiful stops along this route, so take your time and enjoy this drive!

Driving From Saskatoon Saskatchewan

Via Saskatchewan Hwy 7 and Albera Hwy 9 through Calgary, Alberta.

Then follow Trans Canada Hwy 1 to Sicamous, and Hwy 97 south to Kelowna BC.

Via Edmonton, Alberta

An alternate route from Saskatoon is via Hwy 16 west to Edmonton.

Then follow the Trans Canada Hwy through Jasper National Park, Mt. Robson Provincial Park and through Rearguard Falls Provincial Park.

The Trans Canada Highway intersects with Hwy 5 South, or the Southern Yellowhead highway, to Kamloops. From there you will follow Highway 97 to Kelowna. This route is approximately 1500 km, or a 17-18 hour drive.

Tips For Google Maps and Driving Directions Canada

You can customize any of these Google driving maps to add or change driving distances between two cities that may not be in the maps we've created here.

For example, if you are driving from North Battleford, Saskatchewan to Calgary, and then to the Okanagan, you can simply add North Battleford to your map and the driving distance will be added on for you.

Use these driving directions in Canada, to also see the driving distances between cities for a portion of your route. This helps in planning scheduled rest breaks, sightseeing, or an overnight stay somewhere to break up your trip.
