Apex Ski Resort, near Penticton BC, is a great place for family ski vacations with kids - affordable, convenient, not too big and not too small! Oh, and by the way, kids 7 and under ski FREE!

Our own top kid learned to ski at Apex when he was 3, although he was more interested in playing in the snowbanks than learning stopping techniques ;-), it wasn't long before he was navigating trails through trees and finding jumps to fly over.

And now that he's onto snowboarding, the terrain parks are where he's headed - leaving mom to the powder on the less difficult greens and blues!

With an average temperature of -4C, Apex Ski Resort is just a short 45 minutes from the city of Penticton and receives about 600 cm of snow every season. It's our little winter vacation treasure!

There's a nice cozy village with great dining, child care facilities, ski & snowboard school, Mountain Shop, rental shop, 'Gunbarrel Saloon' restaurant, cafeteria and plenty of mountain resort accommodations including a hostel.

There are more than 65 downhill ski and snowboarding runs for every skill level, 2 terrain parks for snowboarding enthusiasts, and lots to do off the slopes like outdoor ice hockey, a skating loop, a tube park, snow shoeing, snowmobiling, ice climbing and nearby Nickel Plate Nordic Center for cross country skiing.

Apex Mountain is also a National Training Centre for both Aerials and Moguls, so you may even catch some training or competition events - which are so fun to watch!

Resort Village

In the village you'll find a cafeteria, snack shop and restaurant, as well as a gift shop, and rental equipment shop. And you can ski right out onto the hill from the village.

Trails

- The easiest trails (Green Runs) are the Grandfather trail from the top of the quad lift, and from the triple chair, the Whipsaw, Dewdney, Finger, Greenhorn's Traverse, and Village Traverse.

- Blue Runs, or intermediate, like the Juniper, Ridge Run, Wild Bill, Gambit, Stagecoach, Lucky Strike, and Sluice Box are fun!

- And there's plenty of Black Diamonds and Double Blacks for those seeking more challenge and thrill. You'll want Sweet Sue, Tooth Tusk, Toilet Bowl, The Great Wall and Sun Bowl for single black, or Winchester, Buckshot, Dirty Harry, Gun Barrel and K2, to name a few!

Tim Horton's Tube Park is located next to the Mountain Shop in the village and features 4 chutes that will send you flying down the hill. It's a very popular activity for all ages, and is open in the evenings on weekends too!

Nickel Plate Nordic Center near Apex Ski Resort has groomed trails for classic and skate skiing, backcountry and snowshoe trails, day lodge kitchen, eating lounge areas, separate heated washrooms, shower facilities and rental equipment. It's absolutely beautiful up here! And if you're up at Apex Mountain, you should take an afternoon and explore the center.

Apex Ski Resort is open from early December to the beginning of April, generally speaking.

Drive times are approximately 2 1/2 hours from Big White in Kelowna, 2 1/2 hours from Silver Star in Vernon BC, 3 1/2 hours from Sun Peaks (Kamloops) and Spokane, 4 1/2 hours from Vancouver, 8 - 9 hours from Calgary, 6 hours from Seattle and a 45 minute drive from Penticton. Kelowna airport is about 90 minutes from Apex Mountain Resort.
